Eligibility

Hopkins Academic Eligibility Requirements

The following criteria is in place for all extra- and co-curricular activity participation at Hopkins High School.

At the end of the previous grading period (9 week), each scholar in grades 9-12 must meet a minimum of 2 of the 4 criteria listed below.

  • Earn 3-4 credits toward graduation in the immediate previous grading period.
  • Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher.
  • Earn a quarter Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher.
  • Meet the accrued total credits listed below, by grade, by quarter:

Academic Probation

The first time a scholar does not meet the criteria, they can appeal the decision to the activities director with a letter explaining the reason for the sub-par academic performance. If approved, the scholar will be allowed to participate but must meet the following criteria for the duration of the grading period. The coach will call parent/guardian and explain that scholar is on academic probation but will be allowed to participate provided they meet the criteria below:

  • Scholar will not have any unexcused absences during the period of probation.
  • Scholar will attend Academic Support session(s) at least once per week*
  • Scholar will not be involved in negative or adverse behavior of any kind.
  • Scholar will submit weekly progress reports to the activities office.

Academic Suspension

A scholar that fails to meet the criteria listed above for two consecutive grading periods will be placed on academic suspension and will not be allowed to participate in practice or competition for the duration of the quarter/grading period.

NCAA Eligibility Requirements

Gender Inclusion 

Hopkins Public Schools' Gender Inclusion Policy states that: All students have the right to participate in physical education classes, intramural sports, and interscholastic athletics in a manner that aligns with their gender identity. This choice shall not infringe on their right to full participation.
