Adapted Soccer
The Robins Adapted Athletics Coed Soccer team is a Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) varsity level athletics program for students with disabilities. Our teams serve students in grades 7-12 from Robbinsdale, Hopkins, Mound-Westonka and St. Louis Park school districts. Our sports are indoor activities, with all of our games and practices held in a gymnasium, competing against teams from all over the Twin Cities and out-state Minnesota.
The Robins have two programs, with the game play rules for each program designed to meet the needs of students with various disabilities.
- The P.I. (Physically Impaired) team is for students who have physical or functional health impairments, and is based at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School.
- The C.I. (Cognitively Impaired) team is for students that have cognitive or developmental disabilities, and is based at Robbinsdale Cooper High School.
If a students’ disability qualifies him/her for both divisions, parents should discuss with our coaching staff which team would best suit the student's needs. Students interested in our program are encouraged to visit a practice or game to become more familiar with what we provide.
View our program brochure for more information about our program benefits, eligibility and registration.
- Team website: RobinsAthletics.com
- Team levels: Varsity
- Season commitment:
Our practices and games are typically held 2 days a week in a gymnasium at our host high schools. We compete against teams from the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota, with a team goal of competing at the MSHSL State Tournaments
- Eligibility requirements:
-
C.I. (Cognitively Impaired) Division - For a student to be eligible to participate in the C.I. Division, they must meet state criteria for Developmental Cognitive Disability (Minnesota Statute # 3525.1333) or has demonstrated significantly below average general intellectual functioning that is measured by an individually administered, nationally normed test of intellectual ability. Specific criteria is available from the MSHSL. Our coaches are able to verify eligibly with each student’s case manager and assist with registering for the team.
-
P.I. (Physically Impaired) Division – For a student to be eligible to participate in the P.I. Division, they must have a physical impairment such as a neuromuscular, postural/skeletal, traumatic, growth, or neurological impairment that affects motor function, modifies gait patterns, or requires the use of a prosthesis or a mobility device. Student’s with a cardio/respiratory impairment that limits the intensity and duration of physical exertion may also be eligible if the condition meets specific criteria outlined by the MSHSL and is not appropriately managed with medications that eliminate the endurance limitations. The specific eligibility criteria is detailed on the “MSHSL PI ADAPTED ATHLETICS PHYSICAL EXAM FORM Addendum” that would be completed by your Physician (or Physician’s Assistant).
